[RESOLVED] Purchased FSD, Tesla won’t honor it

I took delivery of a new Model X right before Christmas. Love the car, but noticed it didn’t come with the FSD option I paid for and was in the purchase agreement. Tesla gives me the option to repurchase it in the app and the car is without Nav on AP and summon, etc. I went back to the delivery center and called Tesla the first week. They both said they would push the update to me in a couple days, which was three weeks ago. I scheduled a service appointment that was supposed to be today, but they texted to cancel (after I waited for an hour) it because ‘they need to install the FSD computer that is not yet available for my VIN’. It’s a brand new MX! It should just be an OTA update! I don’t know what to do next, no one at Tesla will give me a straight answer...

They evidently got confused. Somehow it seems as if they thought that you wanted the new computer installed, but that's not what you were asking for. Of course they thought that because you don't need to come into service to get FSD activated, that's an over the air thing.
It's the delivery center that's responsible for the update

Why did you schedule the service?

You don't need the FSD hardware for Smart summon, NoA, etc.

It's just an over the air update.

I'd just pester them every day until they send you the update.

Once you get the update you can test it out, and if you see cones than you already have the HW3 for FSD. If you don't see cones than they'll have to upgrade the computer and that will likely happen sometime this quarter or next quarter.

...It should just be an OTA update!...

Correct!

2016 hardware 2.0 can do all of what you said with an OTA update so your 2020 car should be the same.

The only things that older hardware 2.0, 2.5 can't do are the visualization of cones, garbage cans and Navigation on Autopilot in the city (OK for freeways).

Please just call Tesla for an OTA update to activate the FSD features that you paid for with no need for a hardware update.

Well, thanks for all the options - bats, cones, etc. But if I read the comments correctly, I will be at the mercy of the local center to install/activate the FSD software I've paid for.

That's all well and good. When I go in to pick up my car, in addition to doing a physical inspection of the car, I want to be able to confirm the software package I've purchased too! If I may paraphrase some comments, `Tesla is a software company that is building a car to move the computer around'. I just want to ensure that my software is installed, just as checking the doors fit properly and the paint is properly applied.

(please bear in mind I'm on the long snaking line filled with Model Y people, waiting to get on the ride)

...confirm the software package I've purchased too!...

That's a very good point.

So at the delivery inspection, if you saw that there's no menu for navigation for autopilot, summon... which means the FSD has not been activated, you could tell the delivery specialist that you are not going to take the car with FSD missing.

The delivery specialist would say it's just OTA update so you can take it home and do it. You can reply that if it's that easy, why don't you OTA it then I'll pay you the money.

The specialist would say it's not his department so there will be a delay to send it to Service Center. You would say that's fine, if it's just that easy why don't you do just that and I'll pay you the rest for the car after that.

So, whether you discovered it at the delivery or at home, there is still a delay.

It appears to me that tesla was confused about what you asked for, since so many people put in service center appointments for "the FSD computer" because they want HW3.

If FSD is in your purchase agreement, they need to activate it. This should be something your delivery center can do for you. If its not too far, I would drive back to the delivery center, with a copy of your MVPA and talk to someone there and explain that "the full self driving option that I purchased on my car is not active".

UPDATE: After about a dozen calls, several emails, two service requests, and two trips back to the delivery center, I discovered that no one at the local level can push me the update. My case has to be escalated to a higher power (probably Tesla corporate). I have no idea why this is so difficult. If I don't hear something this week, I am escalating this myself-- legally.

BTW, when I first found out I only had basic autopilot and called Tesla and visited the delivery center they said they would escalate it. After my DC visit yesterday where they put the FSD upgrade on my due bill, I thought it would be resolved at my SC appointment today. When they told me it would be escalated again I just about exploded.
