They existed but they weren’t a standard the way they are today.

So not to quibble, but words mean something.

The fact is the standard (as in a recognized standards body recognized it) existed at the time Tesla created their chargers.


Now if you want to claim they weren't widely adopted, that may be true, but a separate thing from what you stated.

CCS wasn't a standard yet. CHAdeMO was, but it was limited to 50kW.

So there was no standard available at the time that met Tesla's requirements. (Since Tesla wanted more power, starting at 90kW.)
