William Shatner got to ride in a Blue Origin rocket on Wednesday, but he also got a ride in the new all-electric Rivian pickup.

Blue Origin’s flight on Monday included Shatner and three other astronauts. Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos personally drove the astronauts to launch in the Rivian R1T.

Bezos’ Amazon is a big investor in the electric vehicle startup, having plowed around $1.8 billion into the company. Rivian has also received an order of 100,000 electric delivery vans for Amazon.

Rivian, which just started delivering vehicles to customers, has filed to go public with an $80 billion valuation.

Which has not been proven...
I'm not leaning one way or the other but... you know its a given. Poaching happens for this purpose. Raja Kouduri didn't go to Intel for his calm, understated approach to marketing, nevermind that he failed to deliver the juggernaut he promised. He went to Intel to head their graphics division which coincidentally was what he did at AMD. Ofc the difference here is that Raja is a joke so AMD doesn't care.

I am excited for Rivian. The more electric vehicle manufacturers the better! Choice is the way forward
Yes! One of Tesla's original goals was to show the way for other manufacturers to follow, to move our gas engine culture toward electric. We're glad that Rivian has taken up the drumbeat, so that sooner rather than later we can get our transportation sector, the major contributor to global pollution, moved to electric.
