Is your car set to "charge on plug in" or do you have a time set to begin charging? If it's the latter (time set) then yes it iwll wake up every 24 hours and charge. Wiztecy is saying that if you have it set to "charge on plug-in" then it will only charge once. I have a timer set on mine so I can't confirm or deny his statement.
Actually my 2.5 is set to charge on plug-in and it also wakes up every 24 hours.

My understanding, for a car in standard mode, is:

* charge on plugin. Car will charge on plugin, and then at the same time every 24 hours.
* charge at time. Car will charge at that set time every day.

Note that storage mode behaves differently.

+1.

My 1.5 is set to charge on plug-in -> it finishes charging, and then wakes up ~ every 24 hr.
(Roadster is not my daily driver, so I've seen this quite a few times when leaving it plugged in).

When that car first appeared for sale, it was the first 3.0 we were aware of on TMC.

OK, I'll give you the correction on "the first"; I didn't realize this was the same car that was listed on eBay previously.

But, it's clearly not "the only". I'm fine with the sales pitch, but it needs to be accurate. Yes, at one point, this was "the only" 3.0 Roadster, but times have changed. Update your listing (not "you", @dpeilow).

Also, I'm not really sure about the "wait time is nearly a year" statement. Yes, those who got on the list the moment the list became available waited "nearly a year" but, the signup sheet existed before they were actually making/installing the 3.0 packs.

If I called Tesla today and ordered a 3.0 battery, would I have to wait "nearly a year"? I don't know (and I don't think the lister knows either).

The Palo Alto service center in the Bay Area just did a 3.0 upgrade. Not sure if the owner is on the forum. The range mode charge (before balancing) was around 335 miles.
I expect this will go up as the ESS balances out.
I will try to get deets.

IMO that's not correct- my 2.5 starts a charge every 24 hours - regardless to what source it is connected.

That is confirmed - will charge every 24 hours on the "anniversary' of it being plugged in. I stored my Roadster at the office last winter and that is what it did.

If you plug it properly into a working outlet, it will not brick. But I would check periodically anyway because my car recently had a fault develop while pligged in that disabled it.

In standard mode, simply plugged in and switched on (slide switch), how low does it need to get before it charges?

I recall trying this a year or so ago, being faced with a week or two of bad weather (yeah, it's rough out here in California!). Plugged it in and left it, checking every few days. My memory is that the charge dropped over the time, not a lot, but not getting a recharge either.

The car seems to charge quite normally when plugged in, but I'm not the first owner, so maybe there's a setting somewhere?

Probably my one. They called us this afternoon to say it was ready. Here's what I got via SMS.

Nice OVMS message... Can you update/participate on @tomsax and Pluginamerica roadster battery study.

It would be great to see how these 3.0 batteries respond vs. previous batteries.
I have been participating. My OVMS is SMS only at the moment as I haven't had time to replace ATT go phone SIM.

Last update before 3.0 shows that they drove about 30miles to test it.

Awesome OVMS SMS response! You get the prize for the first OVMS roadster 3.0. Congrats.

Looking forward to see how this reports in to the apps. I think all the standard functions will work ok, but Tom Saxton's CTP (Charge Time Predictor) algorithm will need some tweaking, and we'll have to work out how to differentiate the two battery sizes by CAN bus traffic.

My 3.0 battery has arrived at the Marietta, GA service center and they plan on starting the install the middle of next week. I already had an appointment for the annual service on the car and the install of Carbon Fiber upper door sills.

Drove the car all day Friday, and had as many ideal miles left when I got home as I usually start with :)

CAC 214.69
Performance charge got 309 ideal miles at 96%
Normal charge got 233 ideal miles at 85% - I used to get 167 ideal miles at 95%, so they've reduced the %age

I'll do a range charge and a long run early next week. Here's the battery sticker. Wonder if the code 030004 means I was the 4th 3.0 made?

Range charge stopped at 328 Ideal miles, I pushed the TopUp button and it went to 340 IM at 98%. That seems to be the max available.

Drove 102 miles from Los Gatos to Napa (Highway 35, 92, 280, through SF, GG Bridge) in Max Range mode and it's at 67% and 228 IM

Photo or no photo, I believe what Adrian posted.

Adrian, thanks for your posts. I am really looking forward to getting my 3.0 battery, hopefully this year. Just waiting for Tesla to call...
