Last weekend there were an event in Sweden called Speed Weekend. The race takes place on a frozen lake and the goal is to drive a flying 1000m as fast as possible.
    More info (in Swedish)

One Tesla Roadster 2.5 was attending and got the result 173 km/h (topp speed 176 km/h). Is that a world record on ice for a flying 1000m?

Hmm, another example (now a 2.5) showing that Swedish roadsters are using a different type of wheel and have much larger than normal wheel arch mud guards.

Why do these have the same license plate?

    It's a show plate.

Both cars had the same owner when the pictures were taken. He first bought the green one and meet a guy on the street that wanted to buy the car, and sold it practically on the spot. The plates belong to the owner and can be transfered from car to car.

The wheels does not come from Tesla. The owner of these 2 cars and myself needed winter wheels in 2009 but Tesla wouldn't sell us any so we ended up buying 3:rd party wheels. At this speed event the car was equipped with Nokian tires that had spikes. I don't think he normally use those.

Fascinating. I did a little research and here's a recent world record on ice. Apparently it's for 1km, but there's a flying start (what are the rules for that?).

The driver has 1 km to accelerate, then 1 km where the speed is measured (entry, exit and average) and then about 1 km to brake. All on a 30 m wide, straight ice road.

I like how the nav system shows that the car is in the middle of the water, with water in every direction. Definitely "off road!"

My nav system does that from time-to-time while it's parked in my driveway...
