Roadster Hand Brake cable replacement?

Hi All,

Has anyone replaced the Roadster 1.5 handbrake cable? My roadster is in for a full battery replacement (after 111k miles, hooray!) and they said the hand brake cable is frayed and rusted. They want to charge me over $430 to replace it. That seems very expensive for a part that should cost less than $100 (at least the ones for the Lotus Elise do...)
Anyone else have this issue resolved creatively?

I have a 2.5 Roadster and got a used Lotus handbrake cable - $60 for the cable, $280 for labor -

Most Elise and Exige cars have very low mileage, so that's not a bad way to go.
