I wonder what happens if you take it up a mountain - the air pressure might reduce so much that the "clamp" releases?

Correct you can’t open the boot. Some owners mount the rack across the two screen panels so then do have access to the boot. It only takes 30 seconds to remove the rack and bike and 2 minutes to put back on, so not a major issue.

The spare wheel can be strapped to the body of the bike, or if there is space in the car can be placed in there.

I have a seasucker and accidentally opened the boot when the bike was on. Luckily no damage to the bike or car!

I installed a 2" receiver hitch on my MS. Sure it involved removing the rear bumper cover for installation. Sure it was kind of expensive. But once it is installed you can't tell it is there until you slide in the 90° angle mount and then the hitch mounted bike rack.
