Is Pollution Porn for Dudes With Pickup Trucks | Vocativ
Well, in a pulling rig, there's actual reason for it, as the article states. High flow injectors increase the HP, and it takes a bit for the turbos to spool up and supply enough boost to actually combust all the fuel , so you typically smoke most at initial full throttle, and then it dies down substantially.
The most modified of the rigs will never completely eliminate the smoke, as the "super fuel" (i.e. inject more fuel then they can burn) as a method to keep components cool.
The guys modifying their rigs to simply dump fuel in to the system that they don't have the boost to make more HP are doing it just for show...
I had a F350 Turbo Diesel with custom chip in it... I could lay down some coal at the highest setting...
Saw this article today. Just pathetic.
I actually got pulled over in my Jetta TDI driving through Las Vegas. The car would kick out a little grey smoke if you missed a gear. More cities/states need laws like that.
I was driving the Leaf tonight and a raised truck said hello by "rolling coal". There was a cop about half a block behind. I really hope he got him... Totally stupid and pointless.
As far as I know this is illegal. If a DOT officer witnesses this in person the violator will be cited and potentially vehicle impounded. If this is done as an intended act against a cyclist, the driver can be arrested.
One instance. Truck driver does on riders, and one of them is a bike cop - BikePortland.org
That's AWESOME
