Rome Station, Oregon (Hwy 95)

The supercharger at Say When Casino did not happen on Hwy 95 but the cafe at Rome Station would be a great location. The owner is interested, see the Facebook page for Rome Station - Rome Station

Please send in the suggestion to Tesla and encourage the owner or stop in if you travel Hwy 95 through eastern Oregon.

Wow. This really shows how much nothing is out there. I just looked up that Rome Station restaurant in Google Maps, and it showed the address as being in Jordan Valley, so I started zooming out to see where it was within the town. And I kept zooming out...and out...and out... And then I finally saw the actual town of Jordan Valley way over on the right of my screen. So I plotted the directions, and it's 32 miles away from the actual town.

That is cool that you put in that suggestion on their page. I just went and added my own comment about it. My wife and I are actually heading down there later this week to go from Boise to Reno/Lake Taho for a few days. And yeah...we are taking our gas car, because my wife isn't patient to deal with the slow hour+ slow charging stop in McDermitt. I mentioned this in my comment, that we would take the Tesla and make this food stop at Rome Station if a Supercharger would get installed there.

If anyone has any contact in Tesla's Supercharger team please help us lobby for Supercharger at Rome Station on Hwy 95 in eastern Oregon near 95 and 78 intersection. The Cafe/station owner is interested and has been given the [email protected] email address.

@Rocky_H Would be great if you could stop and chat with the owner on the way if you can.

Bonus idea:

Real estate has to be quite cheap there. I think Tesla ought to build a lounge with 40 stalls a la Kettleman City. Would be a perfect stop for a refreshing stay.

In a more serious vein, this might be a location to have a nice solar array with battery backup. Perhaps 100kWh of storage onsite to charge our vehicles at any time of day on sunshine (I highly doubt that this putative location would receive more than 4 cars per day), with the excess going onto the grid. I would assume that a modest array of 20kW would be ample to charge the batteries fully in less than 36 hours on most sunny days.

Please don't parse my assumptions; I'm just spitballing for illustrative purposes.

Ugghhhh... But, but...

YES! That would be a great idea! There are probably plenty of places they could buy along there. But having it next to some existing business would be a lot easier than trying to start their own.
with 40 stalls
 Uh, dude. It's a minor two-lane road. I was thinking more like the two stall pallet kind.

Yes, I've thought this type of small Supercharger package should be in their wheelhouse to set up in places with lesser traffic like this.

Would be great if you could stop and chat with the owner on the way if you can.
Well, didn't really happen. My wife the impatient one was with me, so an unnecessary stop with the gas car wasn't really going to sell well. We did briefly stop in Jordan Valley just to gas up and grab a drink, and then all the way down to Winnemucca. On the way back, it was non stop from Winnemucca to Boise.

Rocky, it is hard to discern whether your reply is sarcasm like my original statement. If so, it must be the difference in generations and professions. And I have driven that highway in my Tesla!

I thought I made my intent clear with my second paragraph.

There really has to be ways to convey tone and intent with the written word on these sites. :) But the limited selection of little faces that drop down from the top bar are inadequate!

It's fine. It just seemed shocking and funny at the idea of this lesser route needing 40 stalls when we're still desperately begging for one. I've never even seen a site with 20, much less 40 stalls. I wasn't meaning to turn it into a thing, with anyone taking or giving offense or being bothered.

Since the host site is willing (and has contacted Tesla), I think the thing that is necessary at this point is for more owners to poke Tesla with a sharp stick to get going on this. So please, other Tesla owners, use the contact form on your Tesla account page and send Tesla a message asking them to work with Rome Station to install a Supercharger.

Ok, it’s time to start a Custer-style Tesla rally to eastern Oregon, wagon train style.;);););););)
