Roof box mounted backwards

Flipped the Yakima CBX 16 around, running it in the opposite direction than it is designed for. Seems to have improved the stability of the box. When mounted forward facing, too much hangs over the front causing some flapping issues when driving behind a semi on the highway. Now it’s pretty steady. Couple pics for reference for those who are looking at this roof box. The interior pic is from when it was mounted forward facing. Now I can’t see the box through the windshield unless I lean way forward.

Reminds me a bit of when I windsurfed, back in the day, we would put our boards on tail forward, upside down. The tail was thinner, and upside down the curvature followed the shape of the car better, so overall, seemed a more stable aero configuration.

Interesting. Ya, Mounted like this its very stable compared to forward facing. Only thing may be leaking from rain water at speed; less lid overhang in the rear than in the front (now less in the front which is the rear LOL). Might throw some tape on the new front just to make sure it's sealed okay during long trips

That's the most accepted config, but I don't think it makes any difference aerodynamically. Some say the fin will save the board if it slips backwards through the straps, but that never happens.
