Rookie questions about music media

I got lucky last weekend and finally took delivery of my Refresh MS LR! Yay! Loving the car, but of course, still in the process of learning stuff. I have two media questions, but havent found answers in this forum or in the Owners Manual. Pretty basic questions too:
1. In my 2019 M3 i just traded in, i could simply tap that button on the right of the steering wheel and ask it to play just about any song that is in the public domain. Always worked great in the M3. In the MS - it does repeat my command words, just like in the the M3, but then NOTHING HAPPENS! What am i doing wrong?
2. I want to play tunes from the USB drive i used in the M3. But the openings i find in the center console are much smaller than the standard USB plug on my drive. I guess they are USB-c? Is there some kind of adapter i can buy? Or can you recommend a USB-c drive that i can copy my tunes to?

I just broke down and bought a usb-c memory stick as they are cheap. Since normally only reading from, any brand should work ok for music.

buy a USB SSD, format it for music, boombox, lightshow and dashcam. 1 TB not too expensive. Put in glovebox.

Thanks folks for your replies. Today a usb to usbc converter arrived from Amazon. AND it worked! I have my music back! AND, for some strange reason the Command button does now play music i request! I am a happy camper!
