Rust on the spot welds or something else?

Noticed a couple of rusting spot welds in the trunk area while washing the Model Y this weekend. Anyone else have this issue? Maybe it's not rust but something else? Looking for ideas on how to fix.

Bring it to a service center. Don’t try to repair that yourself.

Looks like water pooling in the depressions. Either the water has sediment in it, or the paint is compromised and that is rust.

Did that. They hit it with some touch up paint.

Good to know. Did they do anything else to it first to make sure it won't just bubble up again?

And have we seen this on any other cars? Any other reports to know if this is a fluke or a pattern? Very curious

Doesn't look like it. I would have expected them to remove some paint, treat the rust and then paint over it. We'll see how it holds up...or not over the next winter.

And to @Thawk yeah that's kind of why I posted this...to see if others have the same issue. I've never had a brand new car develop rust within the first year. Might be a non-issue but it's annoying.

That looks like rust. They should repair the rust before repainting, no? If they leave the rust, it'll keep eating at the car? Correct me if I'm wrong here.

So, I’m not the only one with this issue. I found similar rust on my 2022 MY trunk area, on weld that was covered with what appears to be caulking. Also, noticed caulking in the panel gap between license plate and rear camera panels, I’m afraid to find out what’s underneath the caulking. Taking it for service tomorrow, will update here.

I re-uploaded higher res, take a look.

Also, update on the repairs; dropped off the car at the Tesla service center, they agreed to address both issues (spot weld rust and caulking in the gap that maybe rusting underneath) car will go to a body shop. Got a loaner for next 3 weeks.

The second pic does look like rust. The first and last are a bit out of focus. Let us know how the repair works out in a few weeks.

I received a message today (within 24 hours) that they touched up the paint and it’s ready for pickup. I wondered how they fixed this so quickly, they initially estimated would have to be sent to body shop and would take 2-3 weeks?

My vehicle is back, not sure if they sanded the area but looks like they did a good job on the rust. However, I'm not satisfied with the gap job, service rep will get back to me on Monday on what they can do.

Something else new I noticed when picking up the vehicle, both tail lights were foggy, service rep said this has something to do with battery heating and causing this on some vehicle (???) but if it continues then bring it back. Very frustrating!!

Anyone else with tail lights fogging issues?
