RWD LR Order?

My RWD order is the same. I completed the credit section then the next one is Insurance. I could just check "Use my own" but I want a Tesla quote first so have to wait until my VIN is assigned. I think everyone's order has asked for these new pieces of info and that it doesn't mean anything really, especially for RWD orders.

Thinking about it more, I really do want to wait for the RWD option. I want the most range, I don't want to spend extra for AWD and I don't really want an early car off the line. So if it takes until summer that's ok with me. I was expecting the end of the year anyway. Still it would be really nice to be driving it NOW.

The inclusion of the heat pump near the front motor is what makes me think the RWD may not be produced.

Designing these vehicles, designing the subsystems and how they physically will be Tetris'd together under the hood, sourcing the parts necessary... these things take a tremendous amount of lead time... they didn't suddenly decide to include a heat pump sometime in the last 9 months... they've been planning it all along, so when they planned to offer RWD they had a plan of how they'd offer it heat pump or not... Could that plan change?... Sure... but I don't expect it will be because they stuck a heat pump in certain trims...

We just looked up our account yesterday and were asked to fill out some more info. With that completed, the next step is “prepare for delivery”. They say the next step is that they are drafting up the contract and will contact us when to make the final payment.
We have ordered a LR RWD Y, in red with white interior, with 20 “ induction wheels, 5 seats, with autopilot.
As far as range, we are hoping for more than the 300 miles they had first advertised.
We also own a 2018 Model 3 LR RWD.
The Tesla website let me go all the way through the registration and credit application on my LR RWD model.

Same with me but last week I finally talk to a Tesla rep who told me this is a glitch. To ignore anything on the website until you are contacted in person buy a Tesla sales rep who has been assigned to you to help you through the process. Anything else is a waste of your time and theirs.

Just got an email from a Tesla delivery specialist in Las Vegas. I have a white/black LR RWD. No vin, but I asked to see what the plans are with the LR RWD since my delivery specialist is emailing me. Will report back

Edit to add: original order January 2020, blue/white, after seeing pictures post-deliveries decided I liked the white the best and emailed last week to change to white/black.

So it seems like they are just replying to your original email to change your configuration, it's not that they initiated the conversation regarding your RWD order.

They already responded to that, that was about 2 weeks ago when the change was complete. The text of the email I received is pretty standard, but reads as follows:

SUBJECT: Tesla Model Y Delivery

Congratulations on making the decision to purchase a new Tesla. We thank you for helping accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy!

I will be your Inside Delivery Specialist, and I’ll be working alongside your Tesla Advisor. My primary function will be to help you with financial readiness including funding and trade-in requirements.

As of right now, we don’t have a vehicle assigned to your order. When a vehicle has been assigned we will be in touch to assist you in moving forward with your delivery. In the meantime, please ensure that all required information in your Tesla account has been completed.

Tesla Account:

  • Please log in to your Tesla account. Once logged in, click on the Manage button. This will walk you through the items that need to be completed.
  • Payment: Choose Cash, Tesla Lease, or Third-Party Financing. (If you choose to finance, list your lender and the amount you intend to borrow. Until your vehicle is assigned, we cannot generate a Purchase Agreement for your lender to complete funding.)
  • Vehicles must be paid in full before delivery. Payments cannot be made at the time of delivery.

Trade-in:

  • If you are looking to trade-in a vehicle, please complete the trade-in section of your Tesla account.
  • Still paying off your trade in? Please complete your lienholder information on your Tesla account.
  • Car is paid off? Please upload a picture of the title to your Tesla account.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

This is just an example of the internal disconnect at Tesla. Some Tesla staff imply they may eventually build RWD cars and others flat out say no. I have spoken to two local salespersons (Dedham, Ma) and each advised me they requested an inside Delivery Specialist to call me to discuss upgrading my RWD order to AWD. The first sales person said if I didn't hear from an Inside Delivery Specialist in a week to call him back. Never happened so then spoke to the 2nd person who said the same thing. That was two+ weeks ago and silence. Not really surprised with everything going on and at this point I'll just wait for the Caronavirus situation to settle down a bit.

As far as making a RWD version, I've posted the chat message from Tesla specifically stating the RWD configuration will not be built. But not doesn't mean much either.
