I just had a Rydeen RDV360 camera system installed with rearview mirror display! The mirror also integrates the Escort 9500ci display. Truly amazing and practical. Now I have no fear or anxiety parking in tight spaces nor will I ever risk backing into my dog or my 2 year old daughter.

Is the screen always on in your review mirror? Who installed your Rydeen? Looks good.

Because of the sheer size of the Model S, I find it extremely difficult to park in parking lots. Mine is an early VIN which means no parking sensors. Only the rear HD camera. The Rydeen RDV360 system allows visualization of the entire 360 degree perimeter surrounding my Model S which means I will be able to finally see how far my front bumper is to a wall or if my dog or daughter suddenly runs to the front of my vehicle as I park in my garage.
The screenshot only comes on when I pull the car in reverse. I can obtain a view of the front by double-pressing the hazard warning button. Soundwaves of Tampa installed it; calibration of the 4 cameras were somewhat difficult I recommend you go to a Rydeen-recommended installer.

That's very neat, can you give us an idea of cost?

(Plus I'd love to see it sometime - are you coming to the National Plug-In event at Mote on 9/20?)

The kit costs $800. Required 10 hrs of labor. Total costs just a hair under $2K. I also forgot to mention the system has a 4 camera DVR. It will record events happening 360 degrees around the car, including accidents.
I won't be going to the event unfortunately. I'll be out of town visiting family in Chicago.

    That's actually fairly reasonable.

While RYDEEN calls the cameras HD, the specs indicate they only have a resolution of 580 lines. Just how detailed is the image? While it is probably sufficient for parking, I wonder what detail (i.e., license plate number of a car) the system would be able to resolve, especially in low light level situations.

Rydeen never advertised their cameras as HD. My above post which mentioned the HD camera was in reference to the OEM rear HD camera. The screenshot is sharp enough to read license plate numbers.

Can you please provide more info on your experiences with the system. I just looked at several YouTube videos and it appears that at least some of the cameras provide a reversed image output. That is, when the vehicle equipped with the system was parking, the image shown on the screen of the car in front (or back, not sure which was the case), showed the license plate and the numbers/letters were backwards. Also, articles I read discussing the system indicate that the video signal is provided via a composite signal connector, which is a low resolution image.

Looking at Rydeen's webpage for the system, they say "4CH HD Cameras". While they do not say that HD stands for high definition, I think the implication is that the cameras are high definition cameras, which does not appear to be the case if they output a composite signal with a maximum resolution of 580 lines. I believe a high definition image requires a minimum of 720 lines of resolution (at least in the television industry).

It's a neat system, but I wonder just how sharp the image is (the YouTube images are not near the quality of Tesla's backup camera on the 17 inch touchscreen, but I don't know whether that is in fact true or just the quality of the recording). Can you please provide your feedback on this question.

How are the cameras attached to the side view mirrors? How were the wires run? If you have the electrically folding mirrors, can the repetitive moving of the mirrors cause an issue with the calibration of the cameras? Any additional info you can provide would be appreciated.

Swegman, you can ask all of those questions to Rydeen Sales at 310-787-7880. Please let them know Edward referred you.

I doubt the resolution is HD quality. However, the resolution is more than sufficient for the intent and purpose of the system. I just want to be able to see how close objects, curbs, walls, parking space lines are to my vehicle. I don't' need HD quality for this.

Wait a minute! This is not possible!!!!! How is your mirror showing an image of your car from 10-20 feet overhead? Gotta blimp or an ever-friendly drone above you?!?!?!?!?

(Or is it prolecting a cartoon of your car surrounded by four cameras'-worth of super-integrated images of the car's corners? That's really super-nifty-keen-o)

I'm more interested in this system for recording surrounding vehicles while driving in the event of an accident, or vandalism while the car is parked. I have Tesla's parking assist on my car, along with a Tesla HD camera mounted to the front of my car that is switched with the back camera on the 17 inch touchscreen using artsci's camera switch kit. So I don't need it to help with parking. But if the resolution of the camera were high enough to discern the license plate number on a moving vehicle (especially at night), and the recording format is such that each individual camera output could be viewed on a computer, this could be useful. My understanding from what I've found so far is that the recording format is not a jpeg, mpeg, .264H or other conventional format. I have also been led to believe that it is not possible to view 4 separate individual images on a computer (rather, all 4 images are displayed at the same time), but have not confirmed this yet. The limitation of the Blackvue and similar cameras is it can only captures images in front and behind the car, but not off to the sides.

Does the kit incl the rear view mirror or you had to buy separate?
