Safe and Sound in Chantilly, VA has done it again (audio upgrade)!

Hello everyone!

I would like to share some photos of a recent audio upgrade. My Tesla was the third install at Safe and Sound in Chantilly, VA and I must say Matt Schaeffer has knocked it out of the park again.

Last year, @Xenoilphobe brought in his Model S 85D to get an audio system upgrade. If you have not seen his finished product, I have posted it here.

Talk about amazing!

Recently, @Dickerns brought his Model S P100D in to replace his UHFS system with a complete upgrade to an
ultra-audiophile system. If you have not seen it - prepare to have your mind blown.

Incredible!

Now it was my turn. My Model S 70D only had the basic speakers. I decided to do my upgrade in two parts. (My son is graduating from the University of Maryland in a few weeks, so my money is a little tight right now!)

My first install was a subwoofer and a amplifier. In the fall, I will complete the rest of the install. It will be very similar to what @Xenoilphobe has done.

I cannot say how pleased I am with this install. As I said in the post "Is this the best sounding Tesla?", I done a lot of research in stepping up my audio system in the Tesla. I read comments from others, and found out about Matt on this forum last year. If I had not read comments and watched videos on this site, I truly would have been afraid to add anything in my car. I applaud each and every one of you with your positive comments on this forum!

I would like to thank @Xenoilphobe and Matt for their first posting on the upgraded system. I also would like to thank @Dickerns for setting the bar high. I hope to meet @Xenoilphobe and you in the future!

Finally, I would like to thank Matt. If you meet him, he is a true professional. If you have an idea, he really listens to you. He takes his time and will make suggestions. He will make every effort to see your project through. There is no hassle and no pressure. I told him that I wanted a subwoofer. I only mentioned that I wanted "something special" and he ran with it. It seems he has a vision in his mind as what he will do. When he completed my project, he opened my trunk and I loved it! I was so surprised. I love his passion and if you spend time with him, you can tell he enjoys what he does. He is the reigning installer of the year. You can read all about his award and see some of his work here.

The first part of my two-part project is here.

Items installed:

Illusion Carbon C10 subwoofer
JL Audio XDv2, 600W Mono subwoofer Amplifier
JL Audio Remote level control HD Amplifier
Custom Fiberglass enclosure including Lighted Tesla, Alcantara and piano black decor

Thanks, everyone!

Enjoy!

I was at a Safe & Sound today at about 12:30 PM to pick up a hi-res player and Matt told me you had just picked up your Tesla, but he was able to show me some pictures of the subwoofer enclosure and I must say he hit out of the park. It seems that everything Matt does ends up being a masterpiece.

I wanted to hang around to meet you and hear your system! However, I had to get back to Waldorf. Once I got home, believe it or not, I started another project on my car. My son and I ended up stripping the wax off the Tesla with Iron-X. We then clay bar it, sealed it (which i will keep on overnight) and I will wax it tomorrow. We also cleaned the wheels, vacuum the interior and wiped down all seats, dash, doors with Lexol leather cleaner.

On the next install, I am going to include the hi-res player "Kann" from A&K. We need to connect in the future. Maybe with your permission, I can call Matt and we can exchange emails?

Thank you very much for the kind words @artisjr . Your reaction to what I made is the reason all the hard work and late nights are worth it. It is great seeing the true passion and excitement we all share for audio. It was a lot of fun and cannot wait to finish what we started.

Can you share what it cost?
In the past, people have asked me how much I have paid for this car. I never mentioned price. Even my wife (God bless her) doesn’t know much I have spent in and on this vehicle.

So with that said, plan between $800.00 - $4,000. This depends if you want custom work or not, size of speaker and type of amp.

That is freaking sweet! So that set you back one used 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring with 100,000 miles on it. Well worth it!
