What exactly is the issue here? Are some individuals afraid that a stranger is going to run up to the passenger door during a very short time window, press the retracted handle, open the door and get inside? This is a thing for people?

It's necessary for the driver either to fish out their key and perform the double double click or to use the touch-screen to lock, then unlock the car, in order to unlock all doors.

Nope. Just push the Park button on the stalk a second time and all doors unlock and all handles extend.
