The city recently installed eight electric vehicle charging stations in its Museum Place and South Harbor garages. The stations can charge an electric vehicle in four to six hours. The city will provide the power free for the first two years.. City officials said placing chargers near where people live and work helps spur them to acquire electric vehicles. The stations are being funded through a grant awarded last year by the state Department of Energy Resources. “This project demonstrates Salem’s continued commitment to renewable energy technologies,” Mayor Kimberley Driscoll said in a prepared statement.
