I figured I better post this before the St. George SuperCharger comes online, otherwise it won't be as cool. Friday, July 18th my wife and I took a drive down to Vegas from Salt Lake City. We stayed one night while partying like rockstars. We left Saturday afternoon headed for Cedar City. Booked a room at the Best Western where they have NEMA 14-50 hookups for RVs, we paid $10 and charged over night. Had a pizza that couldn't be beat from the "Pastry Pub". We planned to stop in Cedar City as I wasn't sure we'd be able to make it the Beaver Supercharger. If I were to do the trip again in warm weather I'd have no fear going from Las Vegas directly to Beaver. Cruising at 60MPH we were 20RM ahead of were we should have been by the time we had reached Cedar City. The following morning, Sunday, we headed back to Salt Lake City. The Plan: Stats for the entire trip: First part of the trip, SLC to LAS, stopping at Nephi SC, Beaver SC, and Zion West RV Park to charge along the way. On Saturday the 19th we headed back to Cedar City, Utah Finally to return home on Sunday.
Very cool. 2 of the photos above combined, when looked at quickly make it appear you are on the right lane of the highway, in park with the doors open. Strange illusion at first when I saw it.
Thanks for the photos! I do the trip all the time since I have family in Vegas. Cant wait to get my own Tesla to make it an even cheaper trip!
One note I thought I would mention; If anyone plans to charge at Zion West RV Park. The owners there are super awesome towards electric cars. I'd recommend to call ahead to ensure they have a space available. They let us use the bathrooms and wifi. Cost is $5 to charge for a few hours. I gave them a bit more as they were so accommodating. Be-aware there is a 2nd RV park right next to Zion West, which Google maps incorrectly lists as Zion West. We accidentally pulled into the wrong RV park the first time. The owners of this park were, lets say, NOT HAPPY, to see us. Was a little shocked at how rude they were. Corrected locations below: Zion West (Awesome place to charge): 37.231607,-113.363771 - Google Maps Jerk Balls: 37.232527,-113.363011 - Google Maps Hah! I was wondering if anyone else would see that. When I previewed the post I saw that too, took me a moment to realize it was two separate images. I've got an S85 with the 19 inch Michelin Primacys.
I enjoyed reading this! I picked up my first Tesla (2015 Model S 70D) in Las Vegas last Friday and drove the one-way trip back to Salt Lake. I stopped in St George to charge (for a few minutes) and stayed overnight at Beaver after charging. Then charged at Nephi (I went to the Burger King in the background of one of your photos for breakfast) and back to SLC. The whole thing was so much nicer in the model S than it has been in my other car - I actually regretted the overnight stop as I felt that I could have just pushed through and arrived at around 3am. But better safe than sorry, those cars don't drive themselves
