Can I use this Samsung T7 Touch Portable SSD - 500GB - USB 3.2 for Sentry Mode? Is it better than the T5 or does it matter? It costs about $40 more than the T5.

I'm starting to buy all my accessories in preparation for my delivery.

Thanks in advance.

Probably, but I think you may be asking for headaches without getting much benefit. I don't know how the fingerprint reader works, but certainly you can't have it require a fingerprint in order to write to it as it will be in the car when you are not. You also likely can't take advantage of the speed increase over the T5 because the car only writes at a certain speed. New product may not be as reliable older T5, etc.

Personally I went with a SD card in an adapter as a SSD seems like overkill...

I ordered these:

The endurance card literally is made for security cameras and extreme temperatures. I prefer the Samsung linked, but any reputable high endurance card will work. This I think is the biggest risk of using SSD's. They're made for home use and not for the high temperatures of a Tesla interior. I like this adapter because I can plug into my phone via USB-C and save clips easily to Google Photos instead bringing the stick inside to my home PC.

Thank you, I am now armed with more info to base a decision on. I see they sell a 256GB card, do I need that or is 128GB sufficient?
Cheers

Appreciate all the info, but I’m a “more power” kind of guy aka Tim The Tool Man Taylor.....aka future proof so I’ll probably buy the 256 GB card.

I just took out my 256gb ssd from my model 3 after 6 months, and it used approx 55GB of space. About 5 months into using it, I deleted older sentry recordings via the viewer, but other than that no issues. (only reason I am using the 256GB SSD is I had it sitting around, so I put it into an external case and called it good.)

The packaging of the flash memory determines if it’s suitable for home or high temperature environments. Typically the NAND flash in an SSD is magnitudes better in quality and have a much higher TBW than even high endurance flash. The ones you linked are very poor compared to something like a T5. The T5 is also designed to operate at higher temperatures up to 140F.

The card I linked is rated to 85C, or 185F, higher than pretty much any SSD.

"Can I use this Samsung T7 Touch Portable SSD - 500GB - USB 3.2 for Sentry Mode?"

I miss an answer to the original question. The T7 touch has a fingerprint reader on it, protecting the data. Is there anyone who have actually successfully used a T7 touch with sentry mode? I cannot get this to work
