San Diego charging advice?

You can probably find a 120V outlet to plug into overnight at the hotel. That would add perhaps 20 miles per night, so you would still need to spend some time at an L2 station. Do you have twin chargers? If so, I suggest spending an hour or so at UTC where the Tesla Store is. (Call ahead about availability. You might need to borrow their adapter.) Or perhaps someone in the area can offer use of their HPWC. (I have only have a NEMA 14-50 outlet, which you're welcome to plug into, but I'm in the northern part of the city. I'm close to the 5, though, so it might be convenient on your way in or out of town.)

Thanks Mark. No I do not have twin chargers. I asked the Hotel and they indicated no plugs available (i suspect they just didnt want me plugging into their grid). I am carpooling so i have a coworker with me, so that is why I am scoping out malls and such so that he has something to do while I charge. Plus most of the days I am in SD, I won't be able to charge until business is done (after 8 or 9 pm) so that is an inconvenience for most folks opening up their homes.

Would leaving the car at the charging station over night on your last day in SD be an option?
Leave it plugged in and walk back to the hotel, in the morning when you're ready to head back home you'll have a fully charged vehicle

They waived the parking fee for me as I told then I needed 60Kwh and would be charging all night. Paid ~$30 in blink fees, but no parking $$.

Edit...

I was staying there also for two nights.

I had to go downtown tonight, and parked in the 4th Avenue lot I mentioned earlier. There were no Car2Go's there! Of course that is because all three of the chargers didn't work. One was continuously going "bong bong bong" saying it had failed to read the smartcard. One would read the smartcard but wouldn't accept touchscreen input to finish the setup. The last seemed just fine, except... nothing happened, until eventually it timed out the transaction. Sigh.

I hate that - the L2 stations have generally been fairly reliable lately. Did you report them to Blink so they know to fix them? They don't seem to have much visibility as to the functionality of stations - or they really take their time fixing them when they do go down.

On your way back from SD, pit stop @ Fashion Island. The Tesla shop has two charger, high power and also roadster (cable provided). They also have two charge point up top. Plenty of great places to eat and some of the best shopping.

Mrjohn: the issue is not charging in OC, the issue is will I have enough charge to get back to the OC so looking for options in SD. I've got a bunch I can check, especially Spanish Landing with 2 Blinks. It is one mile from my hotel but typically occupied by Car2go. Will definitely have their # in hand to call in case their cars are blocking the charge stations.

If you go to the Car2go website, you can register with the promotion code "EVCommunity" There is no registration fee, and they will send you a card for free. This will allow you to move (or use) any of the vehicles that may be parked an an EV spot.

Just keep in mind that the EVC account is really only intended for very short usage - enough to move the cars out of the way if needed - if you're going to use it more you should use your regular account and pay.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and opening your homes for me to charge. Will definitely consider it once I get a handle of how my charging goes when I am in SD in a few days. I just realized I hijacked the OP's thread.

So far things are going well. I found some Blink stations that I could charge at: Fashion Valley mall and Spanish Landing. The latter is a 10 minute walk from the hotel. I was able to charge to 80% of standard charge, which will get me through Wednesday before driving home. I will most likely use the Blink again Wed morning for the last few hours of my conference before heading home as insurance.

the valet at hotel said they can plug into a 110v outlet at the valet kiosk, but that would run me $33 for ON valet costs (not including tip). I will probably pass on that as my company probably would balk at valet parking. They were super excited to see the car, and tried to get me to valet so they could drive it.

thanks everyone for your input, and to those of you opening up your homes, I very much appreciate the offer.

Happy Driving!!!
