Frustrated with SDGEs slow progress on clean energy, the city is setting up it's own power company.

Awesome, in so many ways. I expect this to the be the first large scale demonstration of a city owning unprofitable fossil fuel assets as a backstop to routine, low cost clean energy.

I'm sure SDG&E is going to amaze people by finding ways way to compete. Who wudda thunk ?!

It doesn't appear that the city will own any power generation assets. It looks like they will just contract to buy renewable energy from various providers.
