Sanding down front splitter on pre-refresh bumper?

Has anyone with a pre-refresh Model S tried sanding down the black front splitter on the bottom of the front bumper to smooth out small divots and scratches? Or using some other method that does the same thing? Would love some advice or feedback on best practice.

I have not sanded, but mine has dents and I would love to know if you can fix those. Regardless, the part is available on ebay for ~$150 (including shipping)

I accidentally touched it with a da orbital polisher when doing paint correction, really messed it up, looked like old dull faded plastic. Had to use
Meguiars Plastic Restorer to bring back shine.

might be possible to sand it down using different grits and bring it up to a smooth finish then use some plastic restorer to bring back shine.
