Sardinia RoadTrip

I have just completed my third road trip into Europe with the Tesla, this year was to Sardinia with overnight stops at Reims, Montreux, Genoa and overnight ferry from port Livorno to port Golfo Aranci Sardinia with Corsica Ferries

After 7 days in the south of Sardinia the return route was an overnight ferry from Golfo Aranci to port of Savona with over night stops in Basel, Luxembourg City and Brussels.

I planned the trip using A Better Route Planner and google maps for estimated travel times, from there I decided where I wanted to stay. I could have reached Sardinia in less time, but I purposely wanted to reduce travel time per day and take the opportunity to take in the places visited.

I covered a total of 2737 miles driving at normal speeds rather than for efficiency and spent £257 on 23 Tesla Supercharges, £115 on road tolls and £57 on Swiss Motorway pass and Great St Bernard Tunnel toll. The Tesla Superchargers were too far from where I was staying in Sardinia so I used Enel X with my ChargePoint Card while on the island.

The car performed well, although the air con does not seem that effective when temperatures are 30+ and it’s extremely loud at fans speeds above 7.

The sat nav failed to identify my correct location after the ferry journey to Sardinia, even after an hours driving, i used google maps on my phone for navigation. I called Tesla and they advised rebooting the car and advised if that failed the car would need to go to sleep for a couple hours. The reboot did not work, but when i stopped for lunch for around 30 minutes, I turned sentry off to allow the car to go to sleep, when i returned it identified my location within a few minutes of driving.

It’s no harder travelling around Europe in a Tesla as it is with a petrol of diesel, although the savings are reduced since the increase in supercharging costs. I never had to wait to charge and the Tesla Superchargers open to all EV’s was not an issue such as the Euro tunnel and Arlon in Belgium.
