So Sawyer Merritt did a Podcast over the weekend and talked about the Cybertruck a bit. His track record with rumors is about as good as anyone's.

He said his sources are suggesting there will be 3 launch models now, 2 dual motor trucks, and a tri motor truck. This pretty much contradicts Musks previous suggestion that the launch model would be a quad motor truck. Sawyer said the quad was still in the works, but likely down the road a bit.

He wasn't entirely clear on what would differentiate the lower end and middle end dual motor trucks. Presumably it would be range and battery capacity. Kind of hints at a line-up that looks a lot more like the original playbook from 2019.

If Tesla is worried about cell capacity in 2023, this makes a lot of sense since the quad motor truck will require a lot more cells. Though including the tri motor really confuses this whole picture.

And no, none of his rumors said anything about price. He's assuming they will likely be up a bit, but that is his assumption, not a source.

Any word on when launch would be? I’ll take whatever at this point
Musk suggested early 2023 was still in the books recently.

No more guesses on my part on timing.

Need to see GP
Need to see practice castings.
Need to see beta trucks in the wild (not just prototypes in their labs)
Need to see 4680 line in Austin producing cells

Once those pieces are in place we can start conjecturing about start of production. We're at least 6 months out, everything beyond that is guesswork.

A quad motor Cybertruck wouldn't require any more cells than a tri motor Cybertruck. (For example look at the tri motor Model S Plaid, it actually has fewer cells than the prior dual motor Model S Performance.)

Agree. Was thinking more about the dual motor which requires about 40% fewer cells.

Launching with the dual motor first makes a ton of sense if cells are constrained.

Not sure why they would launch both a tri and quad motor truck myself. Unless the tri was a work truck/ towing oriented vehicle and the quad was more about performanc.

Looks like they are going to be pumping the Cyber Hype at the Cyber Rodeo.
