SC Hood Adjustment Worse After Appointment - DIY Results

Picked up MY 12/30. Made appointment because hood was misaligned and had a lip sticking up at the front. SA said gaps were within spec, one side of hood was almost touching the bumper. Drivers side sat lower than fender, it was a mess. Took the car to SC and was told they’d adjust the closing height but not the gaps. Got car back and hood was even more misaligned with the lip still being at same height above the front bumper. Feeling frustrated I decided to tackle this project myself. 30 mins in the garage and I made it look better than the SC did. Kinda ridiculous. They didn’t do anything and I’m feeling like they wasted my time. Here’s the before & after. I only had 30 mins so I’m planning on going back out there later to make it a little better.

I have an earlier Model Y that was delivered in the early summer of 2020 that had very obvious front fender, headlight and hood misalignment. Took it in to get adjusted, which took almost a week, and while things look better I now have a problem where the wiper blades are hitting the hood or frunk when they come into the down position. SC says the hood is adjusted to the max and the hood is warped so the next step is replace the frunk hood.

So yes, fixing misalignments may cause other issues to pop up and things may be worse in the end.

Frunk alignment was off on my Model 3 and on my Y. The MY is worse. I limited my adjustments to screwing the frunk stops in and out on both sides (no more than a quarter turn at a time). I did not try to move the hinges, or the latch assembly. Frankly, I would leave that to a body tech, not the SC. Once I found the fit that suited me I did what 2020 did. Loving the car!

Can you give a little guide on how to adjust the hood?

I just installed a power frunk on mine, but I noticed that the drivers side is higher than the passenger side. I tried adjusting the latch but it didn't make a difference no matter how I adjusted it. I also tried adjusting the screw in bumpers at the front of the hood but they didn't seem to do anything either. On the drivers side, if I screw the front bumper in, when the hood latches you can press on the hood on that side and tell that the bumper isn't touching.

I installed the Hansshow power frunk on mine and come to think of it the driver side seems to sit higher than the passenger side as well. I don't remember if it sat this way before the install but any tips on how to adjust the height would be helpful.

I too have a mild gap in the hood on one side. I solved it by not looking at it.
Our Y was pretty close to perfect on delivery and panels all looked great. Five months later and I just noticed the front edge of the hood is higher on the driver’s side. It definitely was not like this on delivery day (top photo). Sigh. I was always careful closing the hood the 2-3x it’s ever been opened. I wonder when the alignment issue happened. I am disappointed, especially since it wasn’t like that before, but I also don’t want to touch it and make it worse. Will relegate to not looking at it. 👍
