Just wanted to share about this incident that happened this morning. Our carbon monoxide monitor was going off since 8am this morning; we changed the batteries thinking that it was just a low battery. the smell started getting stronger and permeated throughout the entire house. We spent time trying to locate the source of the smell. Since we started to feel a little light-headed we called 911 and were asked to evacuate the house until the local Firefighters came to investigate the scene. They reported that they detected carbon monoxide through the house and said the origin was a leak from the battery of the Tesla Model X sitting in our garage. A couple of days ago, the TEsla X alert to change the battery popped up and the service was scheduled right after. I just want to warn everyone that if you open your garage and you notice a sulfuric smell, please leave your car outside and NOT in the garage - it could save your life.

Lead acid batteries do not give off carbon monoxide.

They emit hydrogen or hydrogen sulfide when charging which can trigger a CO monitor.

P.S. CO is odorless.
Probably hydrogen. It definitely sets of carbon monoxide detectors quite easily.
I’m not sure you could generate enough from a battery to be dangerous, but it’s certainly flammable/explosive in the right amounts.
Parking outside probably a good idea just in case.

If you had an alert to "change the battery" and you had a sulfur smell, this sounds like an issue with the 12V lead acid battery, not the battery pack that actually powers the car. The 12V battery is just a regular car battery, like is found in any other car. Whatever issue it had isn't particular to the Model X or even Teslas in general.
