Scheduling charging

So when you schedule charging using the car, the vehicle is set to automatically pre-condition for the trip on either all weekdays or everyday when you schedule charging.

During COVID, I don’t goto the office, so the time of day that I use the car is highly variable. I would still prefer to charge during the night rather than right when returning from a trip. I don’t see the point of the preconditioning (as it seems like it may actually waste power) if I’m not leaving every morning at the scheduled time.

Seems like there should be another checkbox that turns off preconditioning so you’re doing nothing more than scheduling the daily charge. Thoughts?

I initially thought the same, however there are two different options. The UI is a bit unclear IMHO.

One option is to make it start charging it a particular time (I've set it to midnight as my electricity rate is lowest), and the other option is to set it to depart at a set time, and in that case it will start to charge early enough before that in order to reach the set charge level. The manual states that even in that case it will try to finish charging before 6am to charge at the lowest utility rate.

If you use the first option (start charging at a certain time) it will not precondition the car.

It was slightly confusing after being used to a Leaf which simply allows you to set a time window for charging (e.g. midnight to 6am).

I need something cleared up about scheduled charging please.

I want to take a road trip tomorrow leaving at 10am. I'd need the battery to be at 95%. I went into the menu and scheduled the charge to be ready for the 10am departure. But the battery started charging immediately. This was approx 22 hours before the 10 am departure. The car is already charged to 75%. I have a 30a service charging the car at approx 22a.

Am I doing something wrong? I certainly don't want the car to maintain 95% until tomorrow morning. I figured the car would start charging sometime tomorrow morning, maybe 4-5 hours before departure.

Scheduled departure is a non-working mess. Scheduled start time works fine. There--I cleared it up for you.
The usable solution most owners use for this is to have a start time, but set your limit somewhere up there in a 90-95% kind of area to get it most of the way there overnight. When you wake up in the morning, grab your phone, and with the app, just move the limit all the way up and get it charging again while you shower and get ready. It will get up near full by the time you're ready to leave. That may sound a little like a hokey workaround, but it's simple and works perfectly to accomplish what the "scheduled departure" feature advertises but doesn't do.
