Got 2 EV. That will help pay for TrueUp time with solar. Between gas and EV fees. This will last a few years.

FYI. I called to have the credits move to the gas account, so that I only have to deal with TrueUp and has bill automatically paid for with the credits.

Sorry I dont understand what TrueUp is. Also, I live in a townhome and its new. My power bill is never really "high" so I dont see the need for solar yet.

True-up is the yearly/semi-annual settling up and reconciliation of excess solar sold back to the grid. People with solar arrays that produce more than they consume get credits for that production which are used to off-set their using electricity from the grid. But some people have large enough arrays or use little enough electricity that they still end up with excess solar credits. This gets added up over time and only settled and accounted periodically (at the True-up), not on a continual basis each bill.

If you have accumulated NEM charges that you expect to cancel with accumulated NEM credits at true-up, make sure not to leave the EV credit in your electricity account. I just got off the phone with a SDG&E NEM specialist, who told me that the EV credit would otherwise be applied toward NEM charges, thus negating the value of NEM credits at true-up.

Yep. I learned from last year. They used my credit on first month instead of running the tab. I asked the CS to move my credit to my gas account.

FYI. In SDGE, if you have solar, you get setup with a new/seperate gas only account. That is where I store the credit. And can call CS at TrueUp to just use that credit on gas account.

fyi, this is the third and last year of the program in its current form. It will be morphing into a point of sale rebate program for EVs next year. So people buying a new car that meets the requirements will get a rebate in the future. Not sure if it will apply to used EVs, or if there will be income or MSRP limits since the program hasn't been fully designed yet...
