Seat adjuster knob broke off

So my daughter was trying to adjust the front passenger seat this morning and the adjuster knob that moves the back of the seat forward and backward just came off in her hand. She didn't do anything unusual, just reached down and pressed on it to adjust it back like she's done without problem on many other occasions. There's a little stick like bit sticking out of the seat and then the knob/lever itself came off that stick part and won't go back on. It's like the plastic parts that were fused together broke. I find it odd because it looks like the whole thing must've stuck out from the seat by nearly a 1/4 inch whereas the one on the driver seat is mounted flush with the seat.

Anyway, think this is covered by warranty? We can use the bit sticking out to adjust the seat so if it's not covered by warranty, then I may not waste my time or money getting it fixed.
