Fortunately, so to speak, for the organ donation purveyors, it will take decades to achieve majority penetration of the driving fleet with any kind of autonomous vehicle technology. New vehicles accounting for just 4% of those on the road and all.
Similarly, guess they will have to rely upon the spiraling opioid epidemic until more people figure out the benefits of CBD oil and other cannabis-related products.

I agree the opt-out system makes the most sense. But ultimately, counting on some people to die to save the lives of other people is just a really crummy solution. It makes life and death a zero-sum game. I'm really intrigued by biotech-based effort to permanently end the organ shortage, like what George Church is working on.
