Hi, I saw in your other post that you were selling due to ‘real world range‘ issues. I also have this concern in choosing between a hybrid and an EV. Could you please elaborate on your experience?

Hey there!

The experience is simply that you will never ever get the 330 miles you are paying for. You will get around 250 miles at most on a full charge. Tesla also expects you not to charge it fully which makes the experience even worse. I charge it fully as I would rather do that than get 220 miles on the 90% charge they recommend. Overall not a great experience and not worth what you are paying as you are being misled and sold something that isn't quite what you are paying for nor expect. If you have cash to spare and don't drive much or don't care for charging daily then sure get one, it is "amazing" and an experience you have never had on any other vehicle. But don't get this expecting to replace your gas car that gives you hundreds of real world miles out there. I am in between and love my hybrid and will be keeping it until the electric scene decides to improve their range to real world ranges.

Sorry for further derailing your for sale thread (good luck on the sales, by the way), but one must keep in mind that range is based on the EPA rating, which, unfortunately, does not reflect today’s real world driving conditions.

EPA testing does not adequately account for inclement weather (cold, rain and wind), and definitely does not account for the high speed limits that we see on many of today’s interstate highways.

Achieving EPA range is possible in fair weather at low speeds (under 60 MPH), but that’s about it.

Aside from that, I’ve found the Tesla ownership experience to be outstanding - enough so that we bought a second Model 3 (used, mid range). Our long range Model 3 has traveled the US extensively, in all weather conditions; we’ve never really found range, nor the Supercharger network, to be a problem.

To me, these vehicles sound like flips. I’m not judging and I hope they go to a good home.

Thank you for the response!

Good luck with the sale.... But you're never going to find a car that matches the EPA stated range, even in the hybrid and gas world... Those range tests are conducted under perfect conditions going at low speeds.... It's true that EV's are more susceptible to weather conditions and higher speeds though so you have a point there, but that's not really the manufacturers fault though, that's the nature of the technology for now.
