Tesla's Semi truck is traveling cross-country 'alone' Elon Musk What’s cool is that it was driven across the country alone (no escort or any accompanying vehicles), using the existing Tesla Supercharger network and an extension cord 3:50 AM - Aug 25, 2018
I don't know how many drivers they had or how long it took them. A single driver is limited to so many hours per day driving (11 hrs IIRC). I don't think charging time will count toward this total, the driver can be off duty and resting while charging. So zero extra time vs. diesel semi for this trip with one driver. With multiple drivers and a sleeper cab, it takes 26 hours of driving from Fremont to JB Hunt HQ in Lowell, AR per google maps. The Tesla semi can drive up to 8 hours at 62 mph without charging. If they stop and charge every 4 hours, and connect to four superchargers every stop, it will take about 1 hour to charge back the miles driven in the previous 4 hours. This will add about 7 hours for charging to the 26 hours of driving, for a total of 33 hours to complete the trip. GSP
