Sentry Mode Question

Hi all

Maybe a silly question but if Sentry Mode footage isn’t being recorded on an internal storage in the car and the car is stolen, then surely the footage is stolen too along with the car?

What’s the point?

That's correct. It's more for recording damage (see the many keying/scratching videos on youtube, twitter) and as a dashcam, than if it's stolen

To prevent drive-away theft, enable pin-to-drive.

Its more about damage from other cars or vandalism and break ins than total theft.
Tesla's are very hard to steal with PIN to Drive enabled so theft is not a big risk.
For me the biggest problem ( apart from power usage) is that thieves are not stupid and will learn that if they break into a Tesla wear a mask or take the USB drive when they leave.
I am mostly worried about careless parking, door opening and trolleys etc all of which it is very good for.

Its a pity we can't use the rear USB ports for the USB drive as it would be easy to hide the drive back there by popping one of the sockets out and using it under the plastic cover unless the front ports are easy to access behind the console.

USB hubs like the Taptes one would probably fool most people into thinking there was no drive connected to the USB ports maybe?
TAPTES Model 3 USB Hub, Designed for Tesla Model 3 Dashcam & Sentry Mode

you could even plug in a fake drive if you wanted to be really clever

Thanks all

Pity you can’t get an alert on ya phone when someone is near the car, least then you’d know in real time eh
That may come one day. Sentry mode itself was only a relatively recent idea and the in car viewer is only weeks old. So its still being developed. Dependant on where you park though you can get literally hundreds of triggering events in an hour or two so notifications could get very old very quickly. it does notify you if the alarm is actually triggered.

You wont know who stole it but you should know where it is! :)
