Service can't correct my license plate number?

I have had the same New York State plate number (xxx4512) since delivery 2.5 years ago.
However the paper work when I get service always says VA 131 517D.

I have no connection at all with the state of Virginia.
The service guy said he can not correct it and that I have to go to NYS DMV.
He claims that DMV automatically will let Tesla know if there is a change in license plate numbers.
That sounds far fetched to me?

But anyway I showed him my registration with the correct plate number and I said if it was true they would already have the correct one.
He did not have an answer for that.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like BS to me. Try emailing [email protected] and ask them to fix it. Send a copy of your registration.

Better yet, that VA plate number format doesn't seem to fit a known format, or at best is from 1972 or older. Any recent plates don't start with numbers unless it's custom.

My plate number is now correct.
