I watched as the service tech covered the keyboard when he typed it into mine. He wouldn't share it with me.
While the display was in diagnostic mode, the temp display shows actual readings (in C), which was really cool to watch. I wish the display showed that normally. When I touched it, he lectured me... Said if I accidentally did something wrong, the car would become a brick and he'd have to tow the car back to Chicago to reset it. I think he was being a little dramatic, but I heeded his warning.
I would guess all the techs who know how to access the diagnostic mode are sworn to secrecy
