I know we have our P100D on the way buttttttttt........... we found a really superb deal on a 2014 P85+ w/o AP and my daughter wants my P85D but im giving that car to my Mom because she is begging on her knees for it so im giving it to her! When our P100D arrives. So should my daughter get a S or should she get a M3 instead! And my son defiantly is not getting a Model S at all he will destroy it he wasn't even ready for his Dodge Charger we bought him!o_O

I'm not quite sure what a yes or no vote means in this case...

Add me to the adoption list as well. I am pretty low maintenance...besides the whole "buy me a Tesla" thing.

i asked this question (getting your child <18) a tesla model S before and got flamed out of my mind. People look at it as a luxury item and not a cutting edge safe driving experience... so you're gonna get the "who buys their kid anything more than a civic" people coming out of the woodwork here any minute.

I may give my son my S. By the time he's old enough to drive, it will be 16 years old and probably only have enough range for him to make it to school and back. Hopefully the battery will only produce 100 kW or so.

I don't know how old your kids are, but unless they are really exceptional and trustworthy, I'd stick with nothing more than a civic or corolla. The civic is what I was fortunate enough to receive.

This may be the worst thread Ive seen on here, for a variety of reasons. No offense, just being real.

Hey, if you are able to provide an $75k+ car to your kid, by all means do so. Safest car on the road, environment saving, etc..

My son is looking at new cars himself, I do have to admit it looked funny when he sat in a 5 series... looked like he borrowed a parents car!

If you can separate the "life striving lessons/parenting lessons" from "safety/security" then I'd say the MS is the way to go!

I would get her a CPO S60. Big safe car and not quick enough to get into too much trouble.

If you can afford it, the financial aspects are secondary. I know that if I had had a car like a P85+, I sure as heck would have done stupid things. And I surely would have wrecked it at some point.

You have to know your kid.

I remember being a new teen driver 35 years ago.

My daughter is getting a used Chevy Volt for under $10k. Price is right for what may become a "disposable car", and it has a 5 star crash rating.

If you do the Model S, and it were me, I would put it into permanent VALET MODE FOREVER.

BONUS: This is post #1000 for me :)

Seriously though, I am now 52. But I remember RACING my parents 1976 Monte Carlo against any guy that would on a country highway. Everyone from high school showed up. I always won. BTW-I'm a chick. My parents had NO idea. Just saying that the Model S is so fast.....it might be a worry.
