i just saw an article on this and assumed there would be an avalanche of discussion comparing this with the tesla approach. Maybe this thread should be re titled as Siemens integrates EV motor and inverter in single housing, how is this different from tesla? or something.
Good idea, thread re-titled. At least for Tesla's non-D rear motor, the motor and power electronics are at opposite ends of a housing that has a reduction gearbox in the middle. So some thermal isolation comes from that. But in general, the strategy of making a single housing with appropriately routed liquid cooling is old news for Tesla -- the Model S already gets the packaging efficiency advantages from that layout.
