Signature X Seat, Belt and Interior Colors w/visuals

This topic is to assist the Signature Model X buyers with the seat color and other color choices. Please do NOT discuss seat movement, as there are other threads for that:

Will the second row seats fold flat? If so, how?
    Model X Configuration has begun!

Currently, photos of the Signature X synthetic white seats appearing on some topics are NOT the same as the Design Studio that shows black seat belts with white seats. Signature X tan leather seats have color coordinated tan seat belts. What you may see in a tan or white leather Model S or Signature S vehicle at the Tesla Store or elsewhere will not be the same. Please make your decisions based on what you see in the Design Studio when you configure. Photos posted here or elsewhere may have old or incorrect data and are included for discussion purposes only.

Enjoy ordering your new Model X and choose carefully from the Design Studio. Be sure to click the red "Done" button if you have made changes in Design Studio that you wish to save for your configuration.

After looking at the screens from the Design Studio, if there are special requests for me to post your choices, reply soon. Our cutoff date for configuring is tomorrow 9/8 and I might not have access to the Design Studio after that date.

Bjørn Nyland requested Design Center screens of Signature X and all the exterior colors are in his video: Model X configurator open for Signature customers - YouTube

Ultra White Seats - a synthetic material

The Ultra White Seats is a synthetic material and has black seat belts as shown in the Design Studio. The color of Ultra White is NOT the same as the original white leather in the Signature Model S built in 2012 and 2013. The Signature S with the white seats had matching white seat belts, unlike Model X. Here is a screen save from the Design Studio.

    White Carbon White.jpg
Tesla Motors mentioned to judge the color from the Design Studio as shown. The original white leather seats in the Signature Model S from three years ago are about the same color and shade as the White Alcantara Headliner shown in this photo. Compare the difference between the headliner and the Ultra White synthetic if you are considering the Ultra White Seats option. I will discuss some of the other color choices in other posts.

Since the Ultra White synthetic is not available to touch and see at the Tesla Store, they wisely suggested that you feel of the synthetic material that is next to the fabric seats at the store. That is the closest to trying out the feel of this choice right now.

Tan Leather Seats - matching seatbelts!

Comparing the differences at the door pillar in the same way, the Tan Leather Seats color is darker than the White Alcantra Headliner.

    Tan Glossy White.jpg
The wonderful improvement from Model S with the choice of Tan Leather Seats are the matching seatbelts! At last, those of you who love the beauty of the dash and doors with a contrasting color can enjoy seat belts that match the leather as well. Notice that the tan belt also appears at the door pillar. I want to assure you that having matching seat belts in my existing Signature S has been perfect, so I am extremely pleased to see them here with the choice of Tan Leather.

Have you noticed that the décor trim is now on the doors? Thank you Tesla Motors for adding the extra quality that Model X deserves. Now all seven passengers can enjoy the richness and sumptuousness of your excellent choice of trim selection.

Take a look at the sun visor that appears above the driver's seat. It is attached to the side and there is a hinge at the right. The larger windshield does not have the mass of Alcantra Headliner in front of the driver or passenger, but rather a higher view. Keep that in mind when choosing the white or black headliner. More on this later.

I sure hope it's a glitch in the configurator that shows the seat belt adjuster and visor mount in black even with the light headliner. I can't believe Tesla would intentionally use mismatched parts like that.

I agree, and taking photos over the last week at the Tesla Stores shows that the seat belt adjuster is the matching light color in Model S with the White Alcantra Headliner and black seat belts.

Now, this screen save of the Design Studio for Signature Model X shows the new Figured Ash Wood Décor.

    Black Figured Black.jpg
Everything is coordinated properly when choosing these choices, but keep those sunny days in mind. Black leather will be much hotter than the Ultra White. Customers can be fooled when visiting the cool mall or visiting an auto center at night. But if you love the beauty of black, Tesla Motors does it right.

The new Figured Ash Wood Décor has not as of 9/7 been available for buyers to see in person. I can only assume it has the reflective quality as the other shiny selections. This is based on checking how it looks in the Design Studio and comparing with other known reflective materials. While Piano Black is NOT available for the Signature X, it too does not "shine" in the Design Studio for Model S. Also, the word "matte" is NOT used. Call Tesla Motors if reflectivity is a concern. It looks great in the Design Studio and I hope all who choose it will be pleased. It's a wood style and color that is long overdue.

Tan Leather with Black Alcantra Headliner

The same Figured Ash Wood Décor choice with the Tan Leather Seats and Black Alcantra Headliner also looks great.

    Tan Figured Black.jpg
As I mentioned earlier, notice how the Black Alcantra Headliner is not covering the windshield area where the visors would normally be located. This makes the choice of the darker material in the headliner a bit easier. Tesla Motors Store Product Specialists did mention that the selection of the black headliner can cause a "closing in" feeling for some. I too found it wonderful at first glance, but it can make the cabin feel a bit smaller. There are some advantages to the darker headliner and I will post that discussion later. If you are considering Black Alcantra Headliner, please visit your Tesla Store or Sales Center and see how it feels for you. One small issue can be the extra radiant heat that occurs when the sun is hitting the material. This might only be noticeable when the sun is hitting the door pillar. Remember, the sun hits the black window sills and dash, so a lot of heat is generated no matter what headliner you choose.

Signature X Dark Ash Wood Décor

Another new choice for Signature X is the Dark Ash Wood Décor. Enjoy comparing the appearance of this selection with both Black and Tan Leather.

    Black Dark Black.jpg
    Tan Dark Black.jpg
The Ash Woods are new for Signature X. Rather than posting all the options, remember anyone can press the "Order Yours" button at Tesla's web site and configure a Model S for the selections that are the identical to Model X. Matte Obeche, Glossy Obeche and Carbon Fiber are identical. Piano Black is NOT available with Signature X. This Dark Ash appears to be the closest, but as with Figured Ash, we as of 9/7 do not have samples to view. I assume this is a high reflective material. Call Tesla Motors to check.

should i go sig (unless white isn't sig only), I think I'd go white with black headliner. This way the color of the seatbelt won't matter. Black and white is sexeh anyway

Synthetic Ultra White Seats with Black Alcantra Headliner

Here is one of the more contrasting choices that reminds me of the prototype Model X we saw at the Battery Swap Event and CES. Photos: Tesla Battery Swap Event | Flickr - Photo Sharing! and 2015 CES - Model X | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

    Ultra Carbon Black.jpg
The major advantage of the synthetic Ultra White Seats would be the cool feel in sunlight. The synthetic material should be easier to clean than the old Signature S white leather. The secret to cleaning spots or clothing dyes from a white leather finish is the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I even removed a black ink dot from a Pilot pen when it dripped onto the leather. About 10 seconds of rubbing with the damp Magic Eraser removed it ALL. I would only use Magic Eraser on leather maybe only once a year or with a spill. Be careful with the tan leather, test on an inconspicuous location. The leathers from Tesla have held up well, but I must admit that I do sit on a light towel to avoid blue jeans color transfer. The synthetic should be the easiest to care for, so don't let the whiteness stop you.

UPDATE: "Ultra White Seats are one of the exclusive items offered on Signature vehicles." This is from an email received today from Tesla.

On the other hand, the Ultra White and White Alcantara Headliner will cause some reflections when sunlight pours in through the glass windows or windshield. You can make that judgement call by checking the reflections in your existing vehicles with a white envelope or blank copy paper. Also, these Signature X seats are perforated, so think of that as you zoom up for a closer look with the Design Studio or the screen saves that have been posted.

When I see white seats, I see friends accidentally dropping something, food, a pen, makeup, etc.

"Oh, I'm sorry!" Then you get to clean it. I have had to clean my light alcantara headliner 5 times from dirty hand prints. If there are kids involved, kids put their shoes on the seats. And greasy sticky hands.

I will go with black. White is asking for trouble.

Great question. I have not asked Tesla Motors if the synthetic Ultra White Seats selection is only for the Signature X. Since it is a synthetic and the windshield size will cause more sunlight to enter, it could be the wise decision for Tesla to keep this choice for the production Model X. With the suggestions made at the stock holder meeting for more vegan choices, this one may stay around. I will send an email to one of those helping me with the configuration who might be able to answer.

I just want to add my experience with the white seat belts in the Signature S. They still look nice after two plus years being handled daily with clean hands. The seat belt mechanics allow placement without much belt handling. I can understand why Tesla Motors would choose the black seat belt. They look sharp and would be much easier to maintain. They could look as good 10 years from now as the day the vehicle was delivered. If Tesla had kept the original white leather, I would probably have chosen it, reflections and all. These seats in the sun will reduce heat. If the seat bottom is too hot with sunlight, just place a white hand towel across the seat before leaving the vehicle.

And I will confess that 99% of the time I was driving my Sig Red with white seats by myself. My passengers are careful and haven't been eating or drinking in the car. With Ludicrous speed I am planning on having some of the Vertigo Car bags: 115 Barf Bags by The Barf Boutique

Yea actually the white seats with black headliner might actually go together better. Once I see if the white headliner is creamier than the seats, I think I'd choose black over it too.

update: I took a look at the tracker. Seems that Black/Black Tan/Black and White/White are most popular.

Mark you said someone told you the material next to the mesh on cloth seats are close? I'm wondering if the material will actually resist most stains like food etc. l

I mean something like ketchup would be killer on white cloth, but on certain materials it could just wipe right off

My wife and I have settled on the all-black interior with carbon fiber, like my Model S. I'm disappointed that the red piping has disappeared, that's what makes my sig X really pop. I think we're still trying to determine black vs. tan alcantara in the headliner.

Let me be clear. I was talking about the synthetic leatherette like material that exists around the cloth seats of Model S is reported by Tesla to have a similar feel. Remember, the Ultra White Seats is NOT, I repeat, NOT a cloth seat.

Unfortunately, on day one, many of us printed our spec sheet that said: "White Ultra Fabric Seats". Yes, I did type their error correctly. I posted in another thread about the error, so I won't get into detail here.

Ultra White Seats is a synthetic leatherette like material and my comment would only apply to the leatherette like material that surrounds the fabric on an existing Model S fabric seat. As far as ketchup spills, remember that all the Signature seats are perforated. The aroma of spilled In-N-Out Burger could occur each time a seat fan turns on.

I hope the extra explanation makes sense.

    - - - Updated - - -

I will miss the piping as well. Mine is a grey piping with the white seat and someone the other day, for the first time, said it brought out the light color of the carbon fiber.

Oh well, we can be pleased with the extra décor trim on the doors and matching seat belts for the Tan Leather seats. Upon looking at all these choices to write this thread, I think Tesla Motors has given us some great selections. For those configuring by tomorrow, give Tesla a call if you need some additional information that helps with the selections.
