silver wall charger vs gen 2 mobile charger for SR+ model. Charge rate (mi/hr) the same or faster??

Hello,

For SR+ model owner, I am debating if it's worth it to install silver wall charger. Does silver wall charger charge faster on SR+ model 3 compare to using mobile charger? If so, how much faster do you gain using silver wall charger? Thank you.

That depends on what outlet you are plugging the Gen 2 mobile connector into. If it is a 14-50 or 6-50, for example, you could get the maximum 32 amps that your car is capable of. That would be the same as the wall connector, assuming it was wired correctly and set to 32 amps or more. If the mobile connector is only plugged into a 15, 20 or 30 amp outlet then the wall connector would not charge at 32.amps, obviously.

Are you charging overnight, or you plan on mid-day charging and need the car asap? If the former, then charge rate is inconsequential once you're at or above ~4KW which is 16 amps at 240V on a 20 amp circuit. You can nearly fully charge a SR+'s battery in one night at that power level, let alone fully charge typical driving usage; it's unlikely you're using the full battery capacity every day.
