Slacker account on Tesla

I asked my "Delivery Specialist" after a year of ownership. He gladly gave it to me.

I now have my Slacker favourites synchronized across my Sonos speakers, tablet, phone and computer. The only catch is it doesn't work on my cellular data connection here in Canada. Slacker logs me out if i try to connect via a cell phone not connected to wifi.

My new question to Tesla is if I can carry that same account over to my new Model X when I get it. It'd be a shame to lose all my favourites and start over.

Has anyone tried upgrading to the Slacker premium account or establishing a new one to login through the car? Gets frustrating to not be able to pick exactly the song one would like after it's played once in a cycle nor can one make a playlist.

Anyone have any luck? I've heard tesla doesn't work well with the premium account.

I signed up for a premium account a few months after I got the car and haven't had any major issues using it over the last year. It seems to work just fine, including the ability to create custom playlists. I did run into an issue with the Tesla media player app defaulting back to the standard Tesla credentials after I accidentally logged out, but I haven't tried it again so I don't know if it happens every time (seems to be a new behaviour in v8).

Thanks for the reply. I heard about previous owners having an issue with some of the functions but if it seems to work fine I'll try it out. So the premium gives ability to scroll back to the beginning of the song or to replay as well? The issue my whole family has with the limited Slacker is thats it's like a half way music streaming service...without the ability to listen to any song at any time one wishes (repeated). And at times choosing the song comes up with an odd selection first!

There's still some peculiar behaviour, even with the premium account but I'm thinking some of this is a limitation of the Tesla app.
  1. You can skip backwards to the previous track but only in playlists.
  2. There's still no way to seek within a track or restart a track -- unless you turn the car off and on again, then it restarts the current track (which is either amusing or annoying if you're doing a lot of short drives).
  3. I still end up with the "I didn't ask you to play that song" issue sometimes but it seems to be less frequent with the premium account. The safest approach I've found is to put the songs you listen to frequently into a playlist, then it's easy to select them directly and consistently.
If I remember correctly there's a free trial period, so you can try it out and decide if the limitations are worth it. It isn't the best streaming option but does the job until Android Auto/Car Play integration comes along (hopefully).
