I am thinking to upgrade my MX 2017 MCU1 to MCU2. I think it costs around $3k+tax. I know that current Tesla's are using MCU3. Does anyone know if Tesla will ever offer a MUC1 to MCU3 upgrade?

No. It made a bit of sense for MCU1 >> MCU2, because there were folks who were stuck with AP2 and MCU1 - but It would be an incredibly wasteful exercise to offer a MCU upgrade to a version built for a different layout and different supporting systems on a car that's up to 10 years old.
If you want MCU3, their stance will be: "buy a new car."
I may have missed this, so apologies in advance - does the MCU2 upgrade retain driver profiles, connected BT devices, garage door opener etc? Or does all of this have to be setup again?
I couldn't believe how seamless mine was. Got my car back last night and driver profiles, garage door opener, spotify login were all intact. The only thing I had to do was to add my phone back, that's it!
The trip counters were reset to zero, but that's ok and not a biggie at all.
