If you put the names of all of the residents of the USA on pieces of paper, throw them in a (very large) bucket, mix it well, and draw - the chances of pulling your own name out is pretty close to winning the Powerball. Well, assuming you're a US resident. If you're not, the chances are slightly less.

Out here in CO, part of the money that goes into the lottery helps out the State parks and such. While I usually don't play the lottery all that often, I'm a bit more OK with buying a ticket every now and then if I know part of that money is going back into our parks out here.

In addition the lower income population will spend more money (i.e. if I get 20 tickets I have a higher chance of winning the lotto!). While mathematically that's true that if you have 20 tickets you'll have a higher probability of winning the lotto than if you only bought 1 ticket, realistically they both approach 0.

Both chances are slim to none, so why invest $20? $50? $100? etc.

I bought 10. I didn't like the 1 in 230 million odds, but 1 in 23 million....well THOSE are odds I could live with

I only buy one row tickets so for me that is unity. I got 1 number, on one ticket, with one row.

If you had more than 4 rows on that ticket you did worse unless 2 were on the same row in which case you did better. If you only had 4 rows then you tied me.
