In the lead up to the Tesla semi event, Elon did say that there might be something else shown. But I don’t think many people were expecting the Roadster. Or am I wrong? Were there credible rumors of a Roadster reveal, or just idle speculation?

In fairness, pretty much nobody guessed anything close to the specs of the truck, itself, either.
Yeah, overall this was probably the best marketing event yet from Tesla. Despite Elon's terrible public speaking. The truck blew everyone away with the specs. The roadster was a shock and the specs also were incredible. The look. BAM! 1.9s. BAM! 600+miles. BAM! It was super impressive.

I didn't see it live but immediately had to "go to the videotape" when I heard. Damn! How did they keep this so quiet? The specs! The speed! Acceleration! And no decent rumors beforehand
