So what exactly do you get when you buy the FSD upgrade? (for AP2.0, EAP owners)

I just called sales in Fremont about this problem. The lady clarified that the FSD is $3K, while EAP for those who didn't purchase it with the car, is $2K. I was under the impression from Musk's Tweets that FSD would be $2k, but that is apparently not the case.
I then ask her to assure me that paying for the upgrade does entitle me to the MCU3 at no extra charge. She left the phone, spoke with a supervisor, and then told me that they will, at no extra charge, remove the display and replace the "AI chip with the new HW3 AI chip." I was under the impression that they had a way to swap out the entire computer for the new one. That would mean that I'd get an Intel CPU rather than the nVidia-based one I have with MCU2. She told me that they will not be replacing the MCU but merely swapping out the old AI chip for the new HW3 AI chip. I asked if the car would be classified as "HW3" after that swap, and she said "yes," but it should be noted that she did not get that from a supervisor. I think that one came off the top of her head.

I'd deduce that this means that the hardware upgrade will be simpler, faster, and less expensive for Tesla than some of us originally anticipated. However, I'd still love to know where this would leave those of us who now have HW2 after that AI chip upgrade? Sentry Mode and dashcam? Would FSD truly be equal in quality and safety to the FSD in HW2.5 or HW3 cars with intel-based MCUs?

I have learned that what Tesla sales/service/supervisors is not always accurate. My account page shows FSD for $2k with my EAP Model 3. I recently purchased FSD for my Model X for $3k and called sales to mention Musk’s tweet and they said Tesla will be proactively refunding the $1k difference.

I called sales several time to buy FSD for my 10/18 model x, with no previous AP, high it should be $5k, but they can not give me that price as they do not know to do it, then they asked me to pay online which reflect $11k,it is been 4 days with every one have different story and different explanation, some they did I not know about the new price or even the feature, they refer me to road side assistance as that is called customer support, my point is , they have no idea about any products, do not rely non them for any information

Personally, I don't see how paying $2-3k makes sense knowing that the (promised) technology is at least a year or more away and owning a car that physically does not have hardware which can support such a feature. Even if it means a "swap", not sure how you can reconcile less cameras, and a computer motherboard that is obsolete. As much as I support Elon and his cause, I don't see this ending well for the masses that prepaid for the upgrade.

Yesterday, a "sales specialist" in California told me that the upgrade price for FSD is definitely $3K.
24 hours later, the upgrade in my account shows the price to be $2,000.
Do they train the people who answer their phones at all?
It was $3k and got changed to $2k. There are humans and not robots so they can't get OTA updates on everything that changes rapidly overnight or over a few nights :)

The EAP/Enhanced AutoPilot purchasers were in a hybrid state (dotted box) and had some newly-defined-FSD features so they are getting a deal at $2K. This is a good deal for one of my family members. Traffic light and stop sign recognition will be useful! NoA-City will be interesting to see how it works/benefits.

Ask for that in writing, you won't get it. Believe me I have been down tis road before. DO NOT believe anything that is not on an official purchase order and in specific detail. The sales people do not care, are not informed and some make things up. I have a post sale written promise form Tesla they denied ever making. Tesla believes that if one employee makes a promise in writing another employee can retract it. Must be a new law Trump passed. Buyer beware.....

I specifically told her that some forum members have already seen the price on their accounts listed as $2,000, but that did not faze her. It should have jolted her awake, but nothin'. It was not something that changed after she gave me the erroneous information. It had changed before she mislead me. I realize that this price change was in a state of flux, but if those people and their supervisors take their job seriously, then they would have been aware of the process. If not, how can they do their jobs properly? I'll answer my own question; they are not doing their jobs properly. That is a very poorly managed and staffed department.

All of Tesla CS and support it horribly managed, your experience is good IMO. I can tell you horror stories:) Elon has no idea or does not care about customer service. The middle management is broken. We don't need a Paypal CS platform for Tesla but it's headed that way fast.

So auto lane change without confirmation using NOA on highway is not an "EAP" feature?

If they actually updated the hardware to be HW3, it would be a steal. Especially for those on HW2.0. It’s be essentially $2k for not only FSD, but sentry mode, dash cam etc. when people were buying blackvues for almost half that.

But based on this response (which I take with 1/2 grain of salt) it wouldn’t even replace the cameras with the newer ones with better resolution. I don’t think that would qualify it as HW3. Maybe MCU3 but not hardware 3.

So, interestingly from my end, I upgraded to FSD this morning (May ‘17 MX w AP2.0 & EAP), confirmed in my car with onscreen notification 30 mins later, and have immediately noticed there are less nags when driving on Autopilot. I noticed that in 2 mile stretches where I used to get 3-4 nags, I’m now getting 0-1. I hope this is a benefit of the upgrade, and that others are seeing the same thing.

In terms of hands on the wheel? Or other types of nags?
