@goinfraftw
1) do you own a house or similar
2) have you maxed out the roof(s) with PV?
3) got batteries?
4) 27 months ago, factoring in US Federal tax credits of 30%, since reduced, without batteries it cost me ~$1.80/watt
5) you can obviously do better with HW costs now
cheers

I was actually referring to buying/leasing a plot of land and putting a 1-3MW solar farm on it for passive income as an investment. Another person DM'd me and suggested me wind turbines, but here's some info I garnered from looking into solar farms last night:

- 1kW per 100 sq ft
- 1mW = 2.5 acres or 100k sq ft
- 4046.86 sq meters per 1 acre
- $21,250 and $42,500 per 1 acre

Costs
- 1 MW will require 4-5 acres
- Usually costs $820,000 and $1.36 million in 2017
- Usually payback period is 8 years at 13% annual RoR
- Approvals: Siting and permitting, however, is a lot more complicated. It can take 1-3 years to get all the necessary approvals and contracts completed for a solar farm.
- Maintenance: After a solar farm is complete and online, it needs little maintenance, and can be serviced about 3–4 times a year.
solar farm is 4-5 acres

Hope that helps others in this thread. The investment, if done properly, is pretty astounding in terms of cash dividends coming back. It made me much more interested in investing in solar stocks sometime in the next 2 years because the dividend income is going to be worthwhile compared to other (even tech) companies that aren't around. If you want to go all the way with building an actual solar farm/utility, then its totally worth the investment.
