I don't think it consumes "significantly less energy" when Energy Saving is on. My car loses about 7 km per 24 hours regardless of the setting.

Mine is better when it's on than off but agree it's not "significantly" like the manual says. The main point though is it's a 24-7 benefit whereas OFF Is only at night.

Originally OFF meant OFF - that is OFF meant the sleep mode was completely off and the car would not go into sleep overnight.

Since Sleep Mode was first released in 2013, the software has had problems with "resume from sleep" - especially with the media player - and by turning sleep mode to OFF, it was possible to keep the car's software operational at all times - and avoid these problems.

I believe it was with a late 6.x release that OFF was changed to be OFF, except for overnight - and by forcing all cars to go into sleep mode overnight, many more drivers started experiencing the resume from sleep media player bugs (the long standing phantom USB playback running overnight).

If Tesla recommends cars should be in sleep mode overnight, they should be able to easily add a 3rd setting:

• OFF - car never enters sleep mode
• Overnight - car enters sleep mode only overnight
• ON - car enters sleep mode at any time the car is idle
