Software stuck on 2021.3.104, but Tesla thinks I am on 2021.4. How can this be?

I would just like to add my .02€ here - I am also a new owner of Model Y in Europe (made in China). Some of us are also waiting a few weeks for the first update from 2021.3.104. I've heard that others here have already gotten an update, but still trying to understand what's going on. I received mine on 02 Sept (deliveries started here only at end of August), and even the games were stuck in "Waiting for update...". Tesla was able to resolve this with a push, but system software remains on the older version. Don't want to confuse the situation, but maybe we can find a common thread...

Thanks for chiming in. It is interesting to see it's not just the USA stuck on 2021.3. As far as I am aware, nobody has ever received an update from 2021.3.104, (with the possible rare exception to 2021.4.18 or some other early .4 load where they remained stuck again).

At some point, new vision-only 3 and Y were shipping with 2021.4.12 or earlier and these cars were getting updates as usual up to .4.21.x and then also stopped getting updates. Then in early July, the 2021.3.104 cars started showing up. We have since seen .3.105, .3.106, and .3.106.5. These are not older than the .4. firmware and even list items in the revision history from .4.12. Right at the end of August, 2021.11.101 showed up, quickly followed by .11.102 and then 11.102.2 and now I've even seen 11.103 and 3.107. I'm pretty sure that the .3.107 came out after .11.102.2, so they are still actively developing both branches.

There are a few reports from early last week of a handful of people with .3.106(.5) and .11.102 that updated to .32.10, but the vast majority of all new 3 and Y since early-mid July have received no updates at all, not even to newer versions of their own branch. We know that this is for both Fremont and China cars. This isn't a normal quarantine of "a couple weeks" that new cars experience, it's something else.

I'm a bit surprised I haven't seen any news articles from places Teslarati with no new model 3 or Y getting any updates for more than two months.

EDIT: I just saw someone post that their car delivered in June with .3.102.6 and same-day updated to .4.18.x. An interesting datapoint along with all the other .3.x cars listing features from .4.x in their revision notes.

Same here. 2021.3.106.5 in Germany (M3 Performance, made in China). Never received an update and for some reason the release info for the software in my car is in french.
when I switch to English it’s in English and when I switch back to German it’s in french again. Very weird.

Other than that, they probably had to use alternative hardware due to the IC shortage nd are now working on merging the builds again.

They are already supporting many different hardware configurations in their main build so I think right now there is no real reason to expect 2021.3.10x cars to be permanently islanded.

Even if they were for some reason unable to merge the builds they could just roll the new features into the current build.

By the way, cars in Europe still have the radar sensor. Since we are also stuck on the same version as you guys, I don’t think it has anything to do with the vision only cars.

I just had service by today to install the HomeLink hardware. I used the opportunity to ask about the software update status. Indeed, I confirmed that their system is showing 2021.4 installed, while my screen shows 2021.3. The tech tried to repush the whole version, which failed. Very strange - I hope we are not stuck.

Same here. Tesla Service shows 2021.4 though car shows 2021.3.104.
It is possible this is our final software. No way to know what's in store, but they never promised to update all cars equally, right?

I think a lot of people will be pretty angry though if they are told their cars will never get the new features due to hardware constraints.
