I remember all those threads (including Erik and David’s and others about two of the side camera being active for changing lanes) and thought it was weird it never went anywhere as in improving things. And now all four are being used? Theoretically they are used in FSD only, if all that marketing means *anything*. :D

Well, here’s hoping this release rolls out more quickly. 6 right now on ev-fw.com which is promising.

Got the notification via the app, got to the car in the morning and the update was gone.
Then the next day another notification, but nothing on the car screen.... :(

It makes sense to gradually roll out these bigger updates that shadow all 4 cameras now. The rush of partially rolled out 2018.4.x and 2018.6.x updates with small seeming changes, indicates to me that a big functional update to AP is soon to be rolled out. They are probably carefully adding code bit by bit and rolling out, monitoring for regressions and getting data.

I hope I'm right, and that the big AP update Elon was talking about is around 2018.8.

No, the marketing said 4 were for EAP, 8 for FSD.

I'm getting offered this for my AP1 car, just to add to the mystery on this one.

No, we were discussing the four side cameras. So to use all of them (including the side) you would technically need FSD. I think that technicality evaporated a while back, though, as cameras were enabled for different things (fronts one at a time, etc.

Also looks like this (6.1) may be gathering speed. Over 10 more today and it’s not 6 am EST yet!

I have been on 2018.2 for the last month (car is on WiFi at home each night). I called the local SC and asked them to push the latest update so I could enjoy the new features of the cabin defrost and seat preheat here in the Midwest. They transferred me to a software specialist, who said I did not have any failed updates and she was not allowed to bump me up the list. I would just have to wait my turn in line.

We got 2018.6.1 on two cars yesterday evening. I did notice a little more vampire drain than usual overnight but it has been cold lately so it could be unrelated . Early tests show it works great when cresting hills!

Only 3 cars with AP2.5 have received this update out of 48 as per teslafi.com.

After reading this thread, I looked and found I am stlll on 17.50.2. Am I that far out of date and should I be concerned that my updates are backed up?

Just check out sites that track updates, like Tesla Firmware Upgrade Tracker Web App

You can see that 17.50.2/3 were the last wide rollouts. So no concern at this time.

While I only have AP1, I feel like mentioning that Tesla (and many other companies) assume all WiFi is unmetered and better than cellular! My model X went from 5gb month average use, ballooned to 750gb over WiFi. SvC said it might be real-time shadow data enabled, but couldn’t confirm. I have LTE home internet from ATT, it makes no sense to allow the car to use my LTE WiFi anymore. Similarly goes for Apple and Samsung devices where we have to tether through the LTE hotspot for updates! Silly programming restrictions, All data ends up going LTE anyway. Crossing my fingers that my model X can be upgraded to SpaceX’s new satellite internet. SpaceX could multicast an update to all cars at once, then just use a small out of band packet to trigger your car to install the cached update.

Just to clarify this one point for some people. Keep in mind that the biggest variable in updating the firmware is the wireless connection strength and speed (Wifi and cellular). In the best case, you can currently get an update in about 20 minutes and after adding in the self check and restart procedures, it can be about 28-32 minutes average. Of course this time will increase with future updates as the firmware gets larger, however; it is not necessarily the size and download time that is the biggest factor. There are numerous self checks that need to be performed after the firmware is downloaded.

To reinforce the point, there has not been a full rollout update since the Hohoho and its siblings (2017.50.2 and 3). For some reason, I only get the 'certified' releases (what I call them). None of the in-between 'testing' ones. See below for details from the TeslaFi history. So, I would 'expect' to get 2018.6.1, if this is the 'final' version of the 2018.2 and 4 series. But who really knows until we see it go to hundreds of cars on ev-fw and TeslaFi... Only Tesla and no one in software dev/release is talking! :D

This is every release in the same time period (car came with 2017.36).

    Edit:

And it looks like 6.1 is gathering more steam....

My car is updated to this revision but its mostly because the car was in service so they pushed that update. I would think thats also the reason why more cars are ramping up.
