Solar Panel price and system-sizing change in CA?

Has anyone else noticed new system sizing and pricing on solar panels? The system size is now 8.5 kW, and used to be ~8.16 kW. The price is also up to $20,400 when it used to be around $18k. Lastly, the first powerwall is now $10,500 and the second is only $6,500.

I'm particularly interested in any info people have on which panels Tesla is now using, as we have a size-constrained roof. Thanks for sharing any info!

Jokes aside, the linked article is not quite accurate - it appears, based on what I can see and OP posted, that the new panels are 425W panels. They are now selling them in groups of 10, so a small system is now 4.25 kW (compared to 4.08k kW when it was 12 340W panels.) It looks like the prices have increased slightly for each size to keep the price per Watt the same as before.

My 8.16kW system hasn’t been installed yet. Any chance they will just install the 8.5kW system at the same price :)

LOL, unlikely. If you wish, Tesla can install the 8.5 kW system at the current price.

Although it took some time, Tesla revised a contract honoring a price reduction and increased size. The person I know initially ordered 3.78 kW system for $10,500 late 2019. In 2020 they were able to take advance of a price drop and revised their contract to a 4.08 kW system for $8,447.23.

thanks, but it seems the pricing for the new panels at 8.5kW is higher than the existing 8.16kW per kW :(

420* :p

yup.. for 420 it comes to $2.40 per watt whereas with 340 based on last price it was $2.20 per watt so a 10% hidden price hike
I just have my 15.64kw system installed last week at $2.01 including tax and fees but excluding powerwall.

Tesla is right now quoting 34167 for 17kw which is also $2.01. actual panels ended up being 425. 17000/425 = 40 panels... If you /420 you get like 40.48 panels......

On Tesla's website I am seeing $40,800 for 17kW which is $2.40. So, I guess everything is more expensive in Cali :)
