Wondering what causes the map to show summer landscape and when I enlarge it I have winter landscape or vise versa.

could it be that the picture taken for the map was taken during the summer? do you realize that the map is not a real time depiction?

Yes, I know it is months old but what was strange is when it shows summer and if you enlarge it then you have winter.

I believe the satellite maps are from Google. Satellite images are taken all the time, but they pick the best images for each area, since some images can be covered in cloud. So it is conceivable, that the best images for that close-up is from the winter, and the zoomed out one is possibly newer and taken during summer.

The imagination of people on here never ceases to amaze me. :)

I guess Google is going to have to add that to their to-do list.

Google takes/buys the images for their maps at several levels, and therefore taken at different times, with the close ups taken from aircraft, the really zoomed out ones by satellites. They rarely use snow-covered imagery for parts of the world without snow most of the year, but if it's the best image they have, it's the one they will show you.

Here's a good example, Invermere, BC. Half the lake is frozen in winter the other half is enjoying summer.
